3 Musical Geniuses/Genii

So sat right there on one sofa is 6 of the most brilliant minds in the Alt-Folk music movement (taking over the reins from Jeffrey Lewis and Adam Green). Only three of them however are Geniuses (Genii?)

1) Laura Marling - She has such a soulful, yeat haunting voice for someone that is only 19.
2) Johnny Flynn - I love his folksy blues beats and the beautiful blend of instruments.
3) Marcus Mumford - A mutli-talented musician with the sexiest voice in the folk industry.

And I know that it's not just us simpletons that enjoy Laura's seemlessly never-ending talents ... Marcus Mumford has toured with her for years, playing drums in her live band (she also covered a Mumford & Sons track in a live session for National Public Radio) and the pair are currently dating if rumours are to be believed. Johnny Flynn's first album is called A Larum, apparently because of it's Middle English translation into "alarm", however it surprisingly is an anagram of a certain Laura M. Coincedence, I think not. Charlie Fink, lead singer of the underappreciated Noah & The Whale, definately appears heartbroken after his split with Laura (he names one upcoming song My Broken Heart). Although this is not something I will complain too much about as I must admit I prefer the more mature sound it has created on their soon-to-be-released album The First Days of Spring. Even the creator of comic book folk himself, Jeffrey Lewis, is an avid admirer of Laura's talents, the two dueting on the most unexpected cover of 2009 (Eminem's Brain Damage).

So there it is, the greatest talents in the folk scene and what do they all share in common? A love for the wise-beyond-her-years Laura Marling. I unsuprisingly find myself also mystified by the beauty and raw talent of someone so young ... maybe I should pick up a banjo a write a song?

(Just realised that rhymes ... I'm half way there!)
